76 Chabot College 2024-2026 STUDENT SUPPORT PROGRAMS LEARNING SKILLS PROGRAM The Learning Skills program is designed to assess students to determine if there is a Learning Disability and to provide instruction to prepare students academically for college courses. The program includes four types of services for students: 1. Aassessment for services and accommodations (LNSK 116) 2. Skill building classes for reading, writing, and math (LNSK 117, 118A, 118B and 119) 3. Support classes to be taken concurrently with academic English and Math courses (LNSK 120 & 121) 4. Computer support classes, for keyboarding, Word, and text-to-speech software. Students can also expand their learning through technology- oriented and/or service learning classes. ADAPTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION DSPS offers students an opportunity to design their own individualized physical education program with an instructor. Activities range from weight training and flexibility exercise to swimming and self-defense. Chabot provides a fully equipped Adaptive Physical Education gym, where students can work out on treadmills, pulleys, weights, walkers, and exercise bikes. Adapted Physical Education courses are available for students at Chabot College with physical disabilities. VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION SERVICES Students who have a verified physical, communication, psychological, or learning disability that impacts them vocationally may be eligible for services from the State Department of Rehabilitation. EL CENTRO El Centro is a bilingual (English/Spanish) resource center dedicated to serving the needs of Latinx and low-income students and their families. Located in building 700 South, El Centro provides a wide range of services, including academic counseling, application and registration assistance, Financial Aid Advising, and a Fresh Market Pop-Up. We also co-sponsor cultural campus and community events, offering a vibrant space for engagement and support. Our center is committed to assisting adult learners transitioning back to school, providing support in both English and Spanish. We also support new, first-time college students by offering a 3-week Summer Bridge program for students aiming to obtain a degree or certificate where we offer Math preparation and support workshops to help students succeed at Chabot College.
