Lecture: 18 hours Laboratory: 54 hours 71 Welding for Artists 2 Units Welding essentials and conventional shop instruction and skills that artistically disposed individuals need to attain in order to proficiently perform in the artistic creation process. Provides instruction on types of metals (aluminum, iron, steel, cast iron, bronze, stainless steel, etc.), mechanical fastenings, cutting and permanent joining together of metals and alloys through welding processes such as; SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, oxyacetylene and braze welding, plasma and fuel gas cutting, general shop equipment usage, welding electricity fundamentals, shop safety, welding consumable identification, and hazardous materials regulation. Lecture: 18 hours Laboratory: 54 hours WORK EXPERIENCE WORK EXPERIENCE (WEXP) COURSES 95 Work Experience 1-14 Units This course of supervised employment provides students with the opportunity to earn college credit while working and developing desirable work habits, attitudes, and skills. Students working in any part-time or full-time, paid or unpaid position will contract, in collaboration with their work supervisor and instructor, to set measurable, achievable goals; accomplish new or expanded learning objectives; and broaden work skills and experiences. The work experience need not be related to the students’ educational goals, Within the academic term, students must complete 54 hours of paid or non-paid work for 1 unit. Students can earn a maximum of 14 units of Work Experience. The program includes experiential learning through a service-learning requirement. Career Opportunities Students who complete a cross-disciplinary course of study that focuses on women’s experiences often pursue careers in the social justice field.
